Activity 01 – Example Dialogs

Please read the following three example dialogs.

Example 1

William: Hey Simon, any updates on the Yonzen deal?

Simon: Hi William, yes, let me give you a quick overview. We still have a minor hurdle to get over in terms of finding the correct partner, but we’ll be approaching ABC company this afternoon, and Carl is confident they’ll agree to work with us.

Willam: Alright, if you need any assistance, please let me know.

Simon: Will do, thanks, and wish us luck.

William: Good luck.

Example 2

Alexander: Good morning Adam. Do you know what’s happening with the upcoming event in Singapore? Have they confirmed the date yet?

Adam: Morning. I haven’t been informed yet. Actually, I’m worried we may not be ready in time as there are some major hurdles for us to get over.

Alexander: Okay, what do you mean?

Adam: Well, I’m afraid John is still out sick and may be so for another month. We also need more senior sales staff to attend, however most of them are going to be tied up during that period. On top of that, the full plan still isn’t ready.

Alexander: Okay, well, I’ll see what I can do regarding the sales staff. I also spoke to John’s colleague yesterday and apparently, he’ll be back in the first week of May which is good news.

Adam: That’s good news, and yes, if you could help me with the sales staff, that would be great.

Alexander: Okay, good luck. Talk to you later.

Example 3

William: Hi Stephanie, how are things coming along with the Yonzen roadmap?

Stephanie: Actually, I wanted to talk to you about it, do you have time now?

William: Sure, are there any problems?

Stephanie: Yes, the major obstacle we’re facing is the lack of facilitators available in June. We’re going to have to find 2 more people and train them beforehand.

William: Oh, I didn’t know you were struggling to find staff. Have you asked Mr. Tamura? He should be able to help you.

Stephanie: Really? Okay, I’ll send him an email right away. Thanks a lot.

William: No problem, let me know if he can’t help, but I’m pretty sure he’ll know who to contact for that.

Stephanie: Hopefully, and, thanks again. I’ll let you know how it goes later on.

In the next Activity we will look at some of the key expressions used to explain obstacles to progress.
