Please read the following three example dialogs.
Example 1
William: Good morning everyone. Thank you for making time.
Can everyone hear me okay?
Kate: Yes, I can hear you clearly.
Kim: Yes.
William: Okay, great. So let’s start. First let me introduce John from sales.
John: Hello everyone.
Kim: Hello.
Kate: Hello.
William: Okay, there are three topics for today.
1. John will give us an overview of the new sales strategy.
2. I will give you an update on the discussion I had with Carl last week.
3. I’d like to discuss your individual account situations in relation to John’s plan.
Okay, can everyone see my screen?
Kim: Yes.
William: Okay, great. I’d like to refer everyone to page 3 of the document and John can take us through the following points.
Example 2
Chloe: Good afternoon everyone. Thank you all for joining us today.
Can everyone hear me okay?
Kumiko: There’s a slight delay, but it’s okay.
Chloe: Oh, let me check my connection. Okay, how about now?
Carl: Yes, that’s better.
Chloe: Great, well I’d like to start with Mike from ABC co. who’s here with us today. He will give us a short demonstration of the new features. Okay, I’m going to share my screen. Can you all see my screen okay?
Kumiko: Yes.
Carl: Yes.
Chloe: Alright, I’d like to refer you to slide 3 of the deck and I’ll hand it over to Mike now.
Mike: Thanks Chloe, thank you for having me. Okay, let’s begin with point number one.
Example 3
Ben: Good afternoon everyone. Thank you all for making time for this call. Can you all hear me okay?
Simon: Yes, you sound fine.
Ben: Okay, great. As you know, we have two items for discussion today. First, we’ll compare the sales graphs from this year and last year and speculate reasons for the downturn at the beginning of this year. After that, we have to decide on a venue for next month’s seminar. Do any of you want to add something before we begin? …no? Okay, let’s get started. Can you all see my screen?
Alexander: Yep.
Ben: Okay, here we have both graphs side by side. On the left we have last year’s sales figures and on the right, we have this year’s sales figures.
Alexander: Excuse me, there seems to be a discrepancy here. The graph for this year, which I received last week, looks different. Has there been an update I’m not aware of?
Simon: Alexander, can I jump in here? I actually contacted Andrew about this. You’re correct, there was an update made at the beginning of this week due to a delay getting all of the reports from Team A.
Ben: Yes, Alexander, I’m sorry. Team A should have informed you of this. I’ll contact Andrew about it later.
Alexander: Okay, no problem guys, and thanks for the clarification. Please continue.
Ben: Alright, now let me zoom in on Q1 and Q2. Of course, I’d like to refer you to the sharp drop in late January.
In the next Activity, we will look at some key expressions associated with teleconference facilitation.
