Present Simple with ‘Be’: Yes / No Questions

In this activity, we’ll practice how to form yes/no questions using the verb “be” in the present simple tense. These questions are essential for obtaining straightforward answers and engaging in everyday conversations.

You’ll learn how to structure questions with “am,” “is,” and “are” to ask about identities, states, and conditions. We make questions by putting the verb first, then putting the subject. This is called ‘inversion’. Here’s the ‘yes / no’ question form.

  • Am I late?
  • Are you Italian?
  • Is he at work?
  • Is she hungry?
  • Is it cold outside?
  • Are we in the right place?
  • Are they in the garden?

Mastering these question forms will help you effectively gather information and interact with others.
