Scenario 1 Gina isn’t happy about the future plans not being finalized yet. |
Gina: Could I say one more thing about that? William: I’m afraid we’re running short on time. Maybe we could wrap up this discussion for now. Gina: Before we leave this topic, though, I really think we should talk about next year’s plans. William: That’s outside the scope of this meeting. We can put it on the agenda for next time. Gina: But we won’t meet again for a month. I really think we should spend some time talking about our plans for next year. It would save us a lot of stress later on. William: If we get off on a tangent, we won’t be able to get through our discussion for today. Let’s try to get back on track and discuss the main focus of today’s meeting, which is how to end this year without any more problems. I feel like we’re getting close to making some decisions. |
Scenario 2 Alexander is concerned that some calculations may be incorrect. |
Alexander: Should we look at the predicted figures for May? I think we can forge ahead with a rough plan for now, but unfortunately, we differ on a few points and I’d like to straighten things out now if we could? Simon: Yes, thanks for the email you sent earlier this morning, and for the included list of calculation issues. Alexander: I’ve got a few more I’d like to add. Should I go through them quickly? Simon: I’m afraid we are running out of time, so it might be better to leave that for a separate meeting, maybe this Thursday? Alexander: That would be great, thanks. Let’s arrange a time after this. Simon: Great, thanks for your patience. Okay, if nobody has anything else to add, let’s wrap things up for today. |
Scenario 3 Anthony is upset that he hasn’t gotten the approval he recently requested. |
William: Alright, thanks everyone for their feedback on the delay and what you’ve all been struggling with this week. I understand things haven’t been smooth sailing lately. Anthony: We can’t make any decisions when there are still so many unresolved issues, plus things are still up in the air because we still don’t have the approval we requested last week, Friday. William: I appreciate your frustration Anthony. Why don’t we return to the main focus of today’s meeting. Anthony: I still would like Simon to explain why he hasn’t made more of an effort to push things forward. William: Okay, Anthony, you’ve made your point. Let’s save this for another meeting, shall we? I promise to support you on this, but for now… Anthony: Fair enough, forgive me for the outburst. William: It’s fine, but as you know, that’s not really why we’re here today. |
