Activity 01 – Example dialogs

Scenario 1    Alexander needs some help.
Anthony: Hey Alexander, how was your day? All set for the meeting tomorrow?

Alexander: Hey Anthony. Actually, not really. I was going to finish my presentation slides today, but I was too busy.

Anthony: Is there anything I can help you with?

Alexander: Well, I still have 10 more slides to complete. I was meant to do them earlier, but I had to deal with an issue that came up. Could you help me create these organizational charts?

Anthony:  Sure, no problem. Let me just grab a coffee. I was supposed to get one an hour ago, but I totally forgot after my call with Ito-san.

Alexander: Thank you so much. I’m sorry about this, but I’ve just been catching up on a ton of work since my business trip last month.

Anthony: No problem, I’ll be back in a sec.
Scenario 2   William is giving Gina an update on a ongoing negotiation
Gina: Good morning William. How are things? Did you have that meeting with Yonzen group?

William: Morning Gina. We had planned to meet with Sakamoto-san on Aug 10th, but the meeting was pushed back to Aug 20th.

Gina: So, they’re still undecided on the features they’d like to include.

William: Yep, but to be fair, it is a huge decision for them. I have Megumi on the case and she’s been doing a fantastic job with the negotiations. I’d initially planned to be there myself, but I’ve to take care of this shipment issue.

Gina: Great, she’s always super diligent.

William: Indeed she is. I’ll give you an update in the meeting on Friday.

Gina: Sure thing. See you then.
Scenario 3  Ryan and Simon are talking about last weekend.
Ryan: Hi Simon, how was your weekend?

Simon: Hey Ryan. I was supposed to meet my friend this weekend, but she couldn’t come to Tokyo, because of the flooding in Kyushu, where she’s from.

Ryan: Oh yes, I saw it on the news. Really devastating.

Simon: Yes. How about you? What did you get up to?

Ryan: Nothing much. Just stayed at home and finally finished that book I was telling you about last time. I was scheduled to meet my customer today, but she had to reschedule, so I didn’t have to prepare the slides.

Simon: Sounds relaxing. Hey, would you mind lending me that book?

Ryan: Sure, I’ll bring it in tomorrow. Simon: Great, thanks.
